Hey, walleyewisdom.com watchers! It’s April 17th and the rain has been non stop today here in Cedar Rapids,
IA…with the weather picture highly unsettled as we head into our first week of practice fishing for the National Walleye Tour event at Red Wing, MN, on April 26-27. You can check out our link to the NWT and find the information for the remaining events and get information to sign up either as a professional or co-angler. If you surf the fishing websites, you’ve learned the bite at Red Wing has been hit or miss for many anglers the past couple weeks. Guide Marty Hahn has posted some nice pics on his website showing clients with big fish caught last Friday, April 12th. He said they were catching them dragging jigs with ringworms upriver at a slow pace. On the 13th, the Full Throttle Tournament event was held with the winning father-son team weighing over 25 pounds of walleye–there were only five limits caught out of the 21 walleye teams entered. Now, we have the certainty of the River rising, uncertainty of the water clarity, and a weather projection showing the weather starting to warm up and improve next week at RW. I’ll be leaving CR for RW tomorrow afternoon and fishing Friday-Sunday with business associate Roger Abel. When Roger heads home, Glenn Vinton and I will pair up for a few days of practice together. Please wish our team of Victor, Glenn, Mike, Steve, and myself with good luck in finding and catching some nice ones during practice…and some better ones during the two-day tournament!! I’ll be sending Mike videos and pics to post on Facebook and walleyewisdom.com to keep you up-to-date on how we’re doing. As always, thanks for watching!! Spike
