National Walleye Tour Report, July 14-15, by Gary Speicher NPAA #128

The fourth qualifying event for the National Walleye Tour 2022 schedule was held on Green Bay July 14-15. Fortunately, my third skin cancer surgery came right after the Prairie du Chien event and I was healed enough I could make the big water tournament. There were 108 boats in the event hosted by the Marinette, WI community. My Day 1 pro partner was Bob Bruegger from Wabasha, MN. We went a long boat ride south to the “mud” pulling spinners. Unfortunately, we came back to the weigh-in with zero fish! My Day 2 pro partner was Joe Okada from Wisconsin. We traveled way north where Joe put us on structure he hoped was holding big walleyes he could target on his Lowrance Livesight unit. We moved across the Bay and fished a number of spots on the Door County side before returning to the weigh-in with zero fish! This was the first tournament in my career where I finished dead last on the co-angler leader list! Pro Duane Hjelm and Co Michael Yarema were the big winners. You can see the full results and reports at the NWT website. Both pros and cos were hoping to make the “cut’ to the top 40 based on accumulated points for the Championship at Dunkirk, NY on August 24-26. Sadly, I won’t be there but I wish good fishing to all who’ve qualified! Spike
