Aim Weekend Walleye Series may have a Historic Walleye Catch At the Port Clinton “Starcraft Marine Open” May 3rd 2015
With predictions that the weather will stabilize the week leading up to the AIM Weekend Walleye Series, Sunday, May 3 in Port Clinton, OH, fishing could be the best anglers have seen so far this tournament season.
“History could be made with the biggest bag on Lake Erie,” says Greg Yarbrough, originally from Gibraltar, MI now makes his home in Port Clinton and will be one of tournament anglers. “I’ve been fishing Lake Erie out of Port Clinton since 1980,” he said, predicting the catch rate should be excellent. “This is a walleye factory.”
“The bite will probably be trolling crankbaits and spinners, but there could be a few people jigging.”
For this tournament all waters of Lake Erie, its tributaries, along with Michigan and Canadian waters are open to anglers.
The way the weather is shaping up, anglers could break the Aim Weekend Walleye Series big basket of 55.93# recorded on Green Bay in 2014. The possibilities are great for a limit to be recorded with all 5 fish breaking the 30-inch mark on the cards. This will be fun to see if Erie can beat Green Bay.
“The fish are here. This will be an inches vs. pounds competition,” he said, referring to the AIM format of Catch-Record-Release™ or CRR. A 30-inch fish converts to 11.33 pounds on AIM’s chart that converts inches into pounds. Multiply that by 5 and you can see where this is going.
“There is the potential to make history on all of the Great Lakes by the numbers and weights caught and released in this tournament,” Yarbrough said.
“The people and organizations in the Port Clinton area are very excited to be a part of this tournament. It will be a great event,” he said.
The West Harbor boat launch is the location for both the boat takeoff and boat check in. Boats will leave in two flights at 7:00 and 7:15a.m. returning at 3:00 and 3:15p.m. The awards ceremony will take place at the launch beginning at 5p.m.
