Ralph Kitson Reports On Lake Gogebic and Timber Resort

Timber Resort is on the North shore of Lake Gogebic and on the West side of Bergland, Michigan. Lake Gogebic is known for it’s walleyes, perch and big smallmouth bass. The cabin that we stayed in was very comfortable. Our hosts wer

e Tim and Sarah Long and what a great couple and fun to be around. They gave us tips on where to eat and what to do (beside fishing) and never steered

us wrong. They bought the resort about 4 years and have been upgrading it since that time. Also if you talk to Tim or Sarah, don’t ask them about the rocking chair by the fire.

Fishing for the first couple of days was tough. There were high winds and I could not keep our boat in place, plus I didn’t known the lake, but still caught fish. The last two days were the best. Finally, I located the fish.

Thursday was our day for walleyes, perch and sunfish. We only caught to keeper walleyes, but caught at dozen undersize fish. Our biggest perch on Thurs was about 13 inches and caught many smaller perch. Friday was the smallmouth bass day. We caught many bass that were between 16 to 18 inches. Along with that we caught some perch with one being 13 1/2 inches long.

We had a great time and planning to head back next year (maybe twice).

Regards,
Ralph Kitson
