We are blessed to have such a wonderful family and I want to introduce you to our children who were home with us over the weekend and went to Palm Sunday Church service with Sue and I. From left to right, there’s Sarah, Chris, Matt, and Amy Saiger. Chris and Amy live in the Chicago…
Greg Bohn is a long-time fishing guide in northern Wisconsin. The past few nights I’ve been reading his book from the mid-80’s about catching walleyes in the wood. It reminded me of his presentation about slip-bobber fishing Greg put on at one of Ted Takasaki’s Walleye Masters Institute in Chicago a few years ago. I…
Our good friend, Dave Zapf, took this picture of me just about devouring a little walleye–or, as he calls it, walleye “sushi”. The fish from Canada’s Lake Lac Seul come in all sizes but leave it up to me to catch a rare little one from this great fishery! (P.S.-That fish should be about a…
Chris caught this huge walleye while we were fun fishing for a day after the FLW Walleye Tour event on Little Bay de Noc a couple summers ago. Do you think we could catch one like this DURING the tournament?! Anyway, we went over to Big Bay to a spot Chris felt the big girls…
With the vast majority of Iowa rivers surging with high water making the majority of them unfishable, why not hit up a NE Iowa trout stream? Trout streams, for the most part, remain clear and the fish are HUNGRY! Drew, a good friend of mine, caught 17 trout Saturday…including a couple of nice browns on…
Thought our site visitors might enjoy the rest of Matt’s pics from the Brushy Creek outing this weekend! Gary
There’s a lot to be concerned about for the future of the sport we love–recession, invasive species, legislation, changing climate, illegal netting…and the list goes on. But, there is a way each of us can help support and grow the fishing industry: join the NPAA (National Professional Anglers Association). We have a link to the…
While fishing a small pond a few weeks back, I met some great folks. This pike was taken through a tip up, and took some time to get in. Thanks again for your efforts and making sure Brady had a great time. Chris Speicher
My good friend Dave and his son Brady invited me to do some ice fishing with them a short three weeks ago. Hard to believe it’s snowing again here in Illinois. We had a heck of a good time catching many Blue Gills. I also want to thank the friends that we met on the ice, who added to the excitement when a 30+ Pike took one of their tip ups. Now all we have to do is wait till next year.
Kenosha Harbor is a great place to go for the big four-year old King Salmon! What a hoot fishing in the harbor with shore anglers casting out to catch ’em and Dad trying to keep the Lund far enough away so we wouldn’t get caught up in any of the shore angler lines. Can’t say he…
Matt and a couple of his buddies are heading up to Brushy Creek today, Saturday, March 20th, to do some fishing below the spillway. Mike and I hope to have some pics and a fishing report for you yet this weekend. Hopefully, the boys will have a successful outing! Update: Sadly, the Brushy Creek spillway…
What can I say? Only could the Burns’ brothers, Dan and Chris, show us the true colors of a Big Bay de Noc walleye! Trolling spinners with crawler harnesses over the big rock reefs out there coaxed some real beauties up for Dan and Chris pre-fishing before the FLW Walleye Tour event out of the…
It looks like the ice on Little Bay de Noc is thinning out and ice fishing for the 2009/2010 season is coming to a close: Warm temperatures have taken their toll on ice conditions. Mud and slush around the shoreline have made reaching the ice difficult in some areas. Pressure cracks have opened up even…
Remember, 2010 is a registration year! DES MOINES – Boat owners are reminded that 2010 is a registration year. Iowa boat registration fees are due April 30, and are valid for three years. Boat registration fees help to manage aquatic invasive species, support the seasonal water patrol program and the water trails program. There are…
GUTTENBERG, Iowa – A new state record for yellow perch was caught March 7, in Pool 11 of the Mississippi River. Angler Bob Ruff, of Garnavillo, caught the 2 pound, 6 ounces, 15 inch perch while ice fishing with his daughter. The weight was recorded at the Guttenberg Fish Management Station and verified on a…
