Lake Metionga fishing trip of a lifetime.

Our friend Gary Pribyl submitted the following story to Walleye Wisdom:

Here are some pictures of the fish we caught at on Metionga Lake, Ontario. We stayed in one of Rusty Meyers Fly-in Outposts, 155 air miles northeast of Fort Frances, Ontario. The accommodations were fantastic and the fishing was the best
I have ever seen in my 50+ years of fishing. I had a counter for keeping track of our fish caught and after the first day I quit counting. My fishing partner and I caught 87 Walleyes in not over 8 hours fishing. 25″ long on down in size. We wondered if we would get 3 Walleyes under 18″ to keep for eating. Didn’t matter what we threw at them for bait but a 3/8 oz pink and white jig, tipped with a minnow or piece of a crawler
worked best. They were laying in 16′ to 25′ of water. Surface temp was 68 degrees. We also tried my favorite rig, a 5/8oz bottom bouncer with a hammered gold, floating worm harness. It worked equally as well and produced the same quality of fish.

As for the Northern Pike, it was another wild time. My fishing partner from Colorado and I went for the Northerns for a few hours with our #275 gold Doctor Spoons. We hit a stretch of weed beds not over 500 feet long where we pulled out 2- 31″, 1- 34″, 2- 36″, 1- 37″ and 1- 44″ that took us 20+ minutes to land. (see pic below of him in the water)

Catch and release (except for what you eat) is practiced on this fly-in lake and it certainly keeps the fishing great for someone else to catch the same big ones.

Can’t wait for my next trip to Echo Lake Lodge near Red Lake, Ontario on August 20th!

We here at Walleye Wisdom would like to thank Gary for this fine write-up. Here are some stellar pictures he included for us to check out:
