Hi, Walleye Wisdom readers! I just got off the phone with Scott Angrove of Golden Eagle Resort in Ear Falls, Ontario and he had some good news to report. As you may already know, ice out was very early this year, April 10th to be exact, so naturally the spawn got underway accordingly. Right now the walleyes are on the move into the shallows and are biting throughout the water column. Scott told me that they put forty fish in the boat on one outing this week at the saw mill. Water temps are ranging from 51 degrees in 14-16 feet of water all the way up to 54-59 degrees in the shallower bays at 2-6 feet. The fish caught are predominantly males within the slot limit but there are a few large females to be had ranging from 24-28 inches as well as some good sized northern pike.
Minnesota’s walleye opener was on May 15th this past week, the same as Lac Seul, so Golden Eagle has plenty of available lodges. You can call Scott at 866-384-0117 or visit them at their website.
