Bass Fisherman Catch Two Pleasant Creek State 40 inch Plus Muskellunge’s

I received a message from a good friend and Walleye Wisdom Viewer Al Monday night stating the following. “Just caught our second ten plus pound musky of the night on Palo”, informing me that he and a friend Wilson had just boated their SECOND musky of the night. Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area, or Palo as the local’s call it is located 15 miles North West of Cedar Rapids, Ia.  This 401 acre lake has been stocked with muskies regularly since 1996.  I received a grainy phone picture to verify the catch and length of one of the fish at 41inches. This fish was well over 10 pounds, probably weighing in closer to around 18pds from my calculations. Al assures me that the other fish was of the same length and similar girth if not larger. Although both fish were over the 40 inch length they were still released immediately after a few phone camera pictures.

The duo were fishing Monday evening for bass with crank baits and decided to do some trolling when the first fish large musky hit their bait, a fire tiger shad rap. Realizing that they didn’t have a net for the monster they used the beach to land the first fish.  The second fish was caught on a similar type lure underneath the power lines. Congratulations to Al and Wilson for their great catches and release of two trophy fish that are prowling the Palo waters right now!

Please remember the special fishing regulations on Palo’ Black Bass less than 18″ must be released; Muskellunge less than 40″ must be released.
