To celebrate our first year of keeping all of our friends, family and readers up to date on our fishing adventures, Gary and I loaded up the Lund Explorer and headed down to Lake McBride to see if we could coax some crappies and walleyes into the boat. We spent the first part of our day trolling the north arm of the lake with Glass Shap Raps. Gary tied on a spinner jig combo that he purchased from Hutch Tackle and I had on a bottom bouncer with a helicopter spinner. Both of us were tipping our set ups with minnows. Later on we tried vertical jigging over some bottom structure using a typical jig/minnow combination. The Northland Slurpie (their version of the venerable ring worm) produced an abundance of fish in deeper water. Water temperatures were averaging in the low 50’s but the occasional wind and intermittent rain made it feel a lot colder than that in the boat! Basically, great walleye weather! I’ll have some video to show later once it gets uploaded.
