The May-June 2011 issue of Walleye Magazine from FLW Outdoors Publishing features a picture taken by Associate Editor Sean Ostruszka on pages 12-13 of a walleye fishing tournament day from the FLW Walleye Tour Championship held at Leech Lake last September. WW’s Gary Speicher was the co-angler partner of pro Pete Harsh on Day 1 of the tournament. Here’s the caption story from the magazine: “Bye, Bye Pike…During tournaments, veteran pro Pete Harsh doesn’t waste time unhooking toothy northern pike and has no place for their slime in his boat. Here, he takes care of “unhooking” this pike with a quick pop from his landing net.” Gary reported the big pike came on one of Pete’s specialty live bait rigs using big, big chubs. “I knew I had a big fish on…and was praying it was the monster walleye we needed for the livewell, ” Gary reported. “But, it wasn’t the right kind of fish so Pete knocked it off the line,” he added.
