Wisconsin Crappie Report From Friend Jim Clapp!

Walleye Wisdom reader Jim Clapp sent us this field report:

Gary,

My wife and I just got back May 26th from the Chetek Wisconsin area and would like to report the crappie bite is now on. The males are just moving in getting the nests ready for the spawn. Water temp. was at 56 degrees when we arrived and about 60 degrees when we left. We fished with both 1/32 tube jigs and jigs tipped with minnows in 6-8 feet of water the first few days and later in the week moved closer to shore in 6 feet and less water. Fished with and without a bobber. Crappies caught were in the 9-10 inch range. Fishing should continue to be good this next week as the females move in

to lay their eggs. Wish I could be there!
