Rockman Reports From Lake Mille Lacs

John had this to report on the fishing up on Lake Mille Lacs:

The ice was coming off this morning at 6:50 am. We woke up to the sounds of the front end loader from the county, pushing the ice that had crossed the road back towards the lake. There was barely any wind when the ice started to come off which was pretty scary considering that the wind is now out of the S.E. at 7 mph and is suppose to switch to the N.W. up to 30 mph. It will be interesting to say the least how much more it will pile up. I think it is safe to say that the ice has piled up enough on the shoreline, that it will just pile up out farther into the lake, I hope. I have some pictures of the ice piles on the web site photo album at www.rockyreef.com under the photo album tab.

Check them out! I don’t think that we will be putting docks out anytime soon. I just hope and pray that the ice will have melted down enough before the opener so that we can have some way of launching boats, even if we can’t get the main dock in right away. It would be nice to have the smaller boat ramp dock in and be ice free at the boat ramp. Oh the joys of being a Resort owner on Mille Lacs Lake. Mother Nature always seems to throw us a curve ball just when you think you are in the clear. It is hard to tell from the pictures just how tall and thick the ice piles are. They are standing over 20 ft tall in some spots and are well over 20 to 40 yards thick all the way across the shoreline as far as the eye can see.

I had said to Patty last night that it looked like we were in for a hell of a mess if the wind comes up during the night, but it never did until this morning and there was barely any wind then. We will see what happens when the wind switches later on today. It is still not raining or windy as of 11:13 today so it could be a very interesting afternoon. I will keep you updated on the ice situation as it happens. I took some video with the small camera and I will see if I can get them uploaded also.

Have a great week
We will see ya
When we see ya
