Devil’s Lake has become one of the hottest upper Midwest fishing locations for several reasons: FISH, FISH, FISH! Lots of walleyes with lots of ways to catch them plus monster pike to spice things up during your fishing day. I was unable to practice fish with the walleyewisdom.com fishing team for this event. I spent the night of July 24th with Char and Ralph who live in Aurora, SD. Great hosts who started the Glacial Lakes Chapter of South Dakota Walleyes Unlimited this past year. If you live in the area, I would encourage you to join and help build their chapter. Made it to the rules meeting on Wednesday to learn my first day partner would be Nitro Pro Keith Kavajecz. He and I have fished together in past years so it was good to spend another day with him. We headed East and moved around to his spots presenting slow death hooks with crawlers on the bottom. The day was windy so boat control was key to keeping the baits on the bottom. We ended up weighing four for 14.20 pounds. Keith finished 53rd in the event. My day two partner was Cabela’s Pro Mike Lenarduzzi from the Green Bay area. The wind laid down for Day Two so we had no problems heading east to his fishing spots. We cast cranks in shallow water and ran cranks in deeper water. We moved around to his spots and pulled 18.23 pounds for our efforts. We both finished in the money! Mike was 28th on the Pro side while I finished 8th on the Co side. The tournament winner was 20-year-old Dylan Nussbaum from Pennsylvania with a total of 55.43 pounds and ten walleyes! Quite an accomplishment in a field of 124 competitors with some of the best tournament sticks you’ll ever meet! Please check the NWT website for more stories and full results. We have a link from walleyewisdom.com to get you there. As always, thanks to Mike for posting this story and pics. Hope you enjoy reading this report! Spike
