Mississippi River Fishing Report from Bellevue

Last Friday afternoon the Suburban, my Ranger 620, and me headed to Bellevue, IA for a weekend of fishing with good friend and fellow angler from Chicago, Tom Harrison. I wanted to get some practice in before our WAT tournament on the 18th out of Bellevue. Saturday was tough fishing for us because of the east winds at 15-25 mph. Fishing wing dams did not work so we trolled Berkley Flicker Shads and Rapala jointed Shad Raps. We caught a nice 19.5 inch walleye, a short, a sauger, and a big drum! Saturday night was “soup” night at the Riverview Campground with fellow campers and owners Annie and Dan. Tom and I turned in early–we were both a little beat up with all the wind. Surprise! Chris Burns from Davenport text us to say he was coming up to fish with us Sunday! Chris let us follow him and his new Ranger 620 to some of his favorite wing dam spots plus a couple trolling runs. He smoked me out of the hole–my 2011 250 Etec was no match for his new G2 engine!!
He caught four walleye while Tom and I caught a couple walleyes, a sauger, and a beautiful smallmouth bass off the face of a wing dam. We finished up about two so they could both head home. The wind was still a challenge but not as strong as Saturday. A quick thank you to both Tom and Chris for sharing some fun times with me on the River! Hope you enjoy the pics! Spike
