Guttenberg, IA fishing report June 14, 2020

Took one day off from our walleye fishing trip to South Dakota then headed to Guttenberg, IA to fish with young local angler, Brandon Hon. Brandon joined us a for a Lake Erie trip a few years ago plus took me out on the Wapsi last fall. He has a real passion for catching walleye! From his camper at a local campground, it was a short ride to his favorite boat ramp. His first spot was a little difficult to get to but we managed to catch two big walleyes long line trolling Berkley #7 jointed Flicker Shads! One was a 24 while the other was 26 1/4 inches long. Both were in the protected 20-27 inch Mississippi River slot. We caught two gar in the same location, a largemouth bass, and a sheepshead. We moved downriver and fished a number of his favorite wing dams catching numerous small walleyes but none to keep. The wind built from the south throughout the day along with a fleet of pleasure boaters running up and down the River. Brandon did a fine job of boat control from his Alumacraft tiller. We were joined by his fishing partner, his dog Copper. Glad to share a day on his home water and catch some nice fish! Thank you, Brandon! Spike

A great day at Guttenberg!
