August 21st, 2010 I found myself and 7 other guys back at Echo Lake Lodge which is 35 miles SW of Red Lake, Ontario. I have fished the Echo Lake group of lakes many times. If you want a chance to get a big Walleye, this is the place. I have caught and released many walleyes in the 8# to 10# range. The picture is one that I caught and released this year. It was 30 1/4″long. My largest so far is a 33 1/2″. I have found that you don’t have to go real early in the spring or late summer to get the “big ones”. Most of my walleyes caught have been in July and August. The only tackle I use is a 5/8″ bottom bouncer with a hammered gold floating worm harness. I like using crawlers as they are much easier to keep alive than minnows. The Burkley Gulp crawlers work at times almost as good as a real crawler. Most of the big walleyes have come from 8′ to 15′ deep water.
Great fishing to everyone.
