Well, Walleye Wisdom “watchers”, it’s over for me as I weighed just one fish today but what a dandy–a 10.4 pound walleye caught live bait rigging! My pro partner for today was Keith Carlson from Goodhue, MN. Keith had found a spot during pre-fishing just off the main channel where the current was conducive to holding big fish. We were the first on the spot, got anchored up, then watched two other pro boats come and fish near us. We put out four live bait rigs: two had large creek chubs, one had a willow cat, and the final had a baby bullhead. No bites by noon so we started trolling live bait rigs with Phelps floaters and a crawler up and down the channel near Keith’s big fish spot. No bites so we moved back to the spot, anchored up, and just a short time later I netted the 29.9 inch walleye for Keith and we felt we might get another good bite. No takers. Right at the end, we caught a short fish as we were packing it in for the weigh-in. Our one fish allowed me to finish in 18th place…short of my goal to make the top ten. The pro partner who helped me in, Steve Lotz, made the cut and I’m happy for him. Keith was a great partner with lots of river knowledge. We enjoyed our day together and look forward to hooking up again in the future. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about the tournament pre-fishing and tournament day reports. Also, I hope you’ve picked up some good tips and tricks for catching Mighty Miss walleyes and saugers! Until the next time…..Spike
