The first ever CRANDIC (Cedar Rapids and Iowa City) Walleye Club tournament was held Sunday, May 31, 2020 on Pleasant Creek Lake just west of Cedar Rapids, IA. The COVID-19 compliant event was kicked off by Club President, Dave Nichols, and tournament directors Terry Hora and Tracy Hayward giving the go ahead to Team 1 to launch from the lake’s main boat ramp. Teammates Dan Goiffon and Gary Speicher were followed by Team 2 of Roger Abel and Buzzy and Team 3 of Becky and Steve Miller. Everyone fished hard for walleye on the 401 acre lake until 3pm. During the day, Dan and I used every method we could think of to get a walleye in the boat. No luck for us. Roger and Buzzy did the same with no fish. However, Becky caught a WALLEYE in the first hour of the day on a jig/plastic bait and weighed in at 2.1 pounds! I’m sad to report I fished for three days before the tournament and never put a walleye in the boat. As Becky said, “it was a very tough bite!” Congratulations to Becky and Steve who won 70% of the $300 total entry fees plus all of the big fish pot money of $60! The Club’s next event will be in September on Lake MacBride just south of CR. Thank you to everyone who participated and the support of Dave, Terry, and Tracy setting up the weigh-in scale and tournament board. Until the next time…fish on!
