This article from the Park Rapids Enterprise in Park Rapids, Minnesota reminds us that penalties for breaking limit laws can and do happen.

A Warroad man must pay $1,145 in fines and court costs and $1,000 in restitution after being convicted for keeping too many walleyes on Lake of the Woods.

Kevin Bjorneby, 44, also lost his fishing privileges until Feb. 24, 2011, online court records show.

A second charge of aiding and abetting an overlimit of walleye was dismissed.

Bjorneby was charged last June after conservation officers for the Department of Natural Resources responding to an anonymous tip seized 190 walleye fillets and 28 ground fish patties from him and his wife.

There’s no mention in the article as to how Bjorneby was apprehended by authorities but it’s a stern reminder that local environmental laws need to be respected. Especially considering the consequences.
