What do you do while everyone else is shopping during the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend? Go fishing, of course. Fellow Bellevue campers Randy Martin and Duane Capes kept an open seat for me early Saturday morning. We put Duane’s Lund in the water and headed up by Lock and Dam #12 to fish with a couple dozen of our closest friends! We fished the Illinois side briefly then moved back over to the Iowa side below the city boat ramp where the sauger bite was going. We then moved up closer to the dam and fished a familiar spot to Duane and Randy. Randy caught a beautiful 22 inch Walleye we released after a few pics. Duane had the sauger bite going and our combined efforts saw nine “cuties” going home to Illinois! We were dragging minnow tipped jigs and using three ways with a heavy dropper jig and a short snell with a slow death hook and a minnow. We fished until around 2pm putting up with a cloudy, cold day on the River. Back at the campground, we busied ourselves loading items from our campers, closing our slide-outs, and saying goodbye to our campers and each other for the winter! Special thanks to Randy and Duane for sharing the boat, a few good stories, and a Busch Light back at the campground. Till the next time…..
