Congratulations go to Jim Hill of Clear Lake for catching the first $100 tagged walleye of the 2011 season. Walleye 04853 was sponsored by KIMT TV and measured 17.2 inches. Jim has been wading at night and in the early morning to catch walleyes. He caught his first limit of three 16-19″ walleyes 2 weeks ago before the cold front hit us. Jim uses a jig and minnow combination most often with shallow running crankbaits being his second choice. A slow retrieve is key with the lake water still being in the low to mid 40’s. All fish will become more active as the water warms up over the next couple weeks. There are 24 of this year’s $100 walleyes remaining in Clear Lake. The fish are tagged by the DNR, released by the Clear Lake Fishing Club and sponsored by local businesses. Crazy Minnow Co. bait and tackle photographs, records and handles the pay out for the fish as they are caught. Complete information on the tagged fish may be found on the CLFC website Prize Fish page www.clearlakefishingclub.com. “Harley”, the $1000 dollar, 6 pound walleye sponsored by Harley Davidson of Mason City is also in the lake to be caught by some lucky angler.
