Here’s an update from our good friend Rockman up at Rocky Reef Resort in Onamia, Minnesota:
The Ice is now sitting at 16 inches and all of my houses are out and we are driving up to a ¾ ton truck. The bite has been good also from 16 to 25 ft of water. The walleyes are mostly biting just before dark until about 6:30 pm and then again in the middle of the night on fat heads on a plain hook and if you are jigging, the #3 Swedish pimples in the gold with the orange tape or just the plain gold.
It has been a crazy couple of weeks with the early ice and the holidays. I am not sure what day of the week we are on most of this past week. Everything is coming together without too much trouble, except that my foot has still not healed and it is worse off then before I had the first surgery. The doctors don’t seem to know why I am not putting down any bone in the joint again and I don’t know what to think.
It is what it is for now, it is a pain that I would not wish on anyone and of course I have to work on it anyway. So that is what I am going to do until I can get in to see the special, specialist at the University of Minnesota on March 10th. That is it for now as I am on my way out the door to fill 100 lb propane tanks and bank up the last of the houses that we pulled out yesterday. I will be posting on Sunday and I will have a better idea on where everyone is catching fish and at what time of day and at what depths
It is the earliest that we have been out in a long time and I have not been able to fish as much as I would like too, but I did get out on Xmas day for a couple of hours and caught 11 walleyes and 12 nice perch. We kept 8 walleyes in the slot and threw back a couple of 23 inchers and a 26 incher, so that was fun. It is a good bite for now, so get up while the fishing is still good and I hope that the storm that is supposed to come at the end of the week stays either as rain or completely misses us as snow.
Be safe
We will see ya
When we se ya
