Dan Krauth points us to this article in the Globe Gazette about the Walleye Classic that begins at Clear Lake, IA this coming weekend: CLEAR LAKE — One hundred two-person angling teams will be aiming for quality over quantity when the Clear Lake Fishing Club’s 23rd Annual Clear Lake Walleye Classic kicks off on Saturday, May 19. Boats will leave from the Sea Wall at City Park in two flights at 7 and 7:15 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The public is invited to watch the weigh-in at the band shell beginning at 3 p.m. each day. Teams can bring up to five fish to the scale each day with rankings determined based on total weight. They will be competing for nearly $15,000 in prize money as well as an optional largest fish pot, which normally pays $500 per day. Last year anglers turned in more than 600 walleyes, with 31 of the 100 teams weighing in the maximum 10 fish. Based on angling success thus far, a similar performance next weekend seems likely. “The walleye fishing has been great,” said DNR Fisheries Biologist Scott Grummer, “even better than I expected.” Grummer said the lake offers an abundance of [...]

Minus me, of course (somebody’s gotta sit at home and post all of this exciting content!), but Ed Mroz, Glenn Vinton, Gary Speicher, Ryan Heuer and Tracy Hayward report on their sixth day of pre-fishing Lake Erie in preparation for the FLW Port Clinton tournament. Also, Ed Mroz shows off some of his Deadliest Katch custom fishing lures and Glenn, as you can see from the picture, shows off what they can catch. The Reef Runner is a great lure but Ed takes them one step further with custom designs of his own.
Hi Walleye Wisdom Readers, I fished Bago on Saturday (May 5th) with my brother in-law Tim (sitting in the pix with our soon to be dinner). The Oshkosh area had received over 3 inches of rain recently and the wind was 10MPH out of the NE. Since the west side looked like chocolate milk, we launched on the SE side of the lake at Fisherman’s Road. We pulled #5 and #7 Flicker Shads in 8 to 12 FOW. We caught a 2 man limit of 10 nice walleyes in approx. 3 hours (we culled several larger fish and only kept the smaller fish). The walleyes ranged from 16″ to 21″. Since the water was dirty (approx 5″ of clarity), we caught more fish on #7′s than 5′s. The best color’s were gold, shad, Hollywood. There we lots of boats on the east side and everyone was catching fish!! The other pix is me with a few nice Bago walters we released on Saturday. Gary…..good luck at Lake Erie!!
The FLW Lake Erie tournament is being held at Port Clinton, OH this year so it’s time for a little pre-fishing before the official start on May 10th. Looking at the pictures it would appear that they’re having a little bit of luck! The spawn was early this year so the fish aren’t as concentrated in their typical locations. We’ll have more information and highlights as the days progress. Thanks for checking in!
